Pontefract Academies Trust Secondary School Students Delivering Phenomenal Results

Carleton High School and The King’s School, both a part of Pontefract Academies Trust have achieved incredible performance in their 2021/22 GCSE Examinations, as verified by The Department for Education (DfE) performance tables published in October. The Department for Education’s Progress 8 performance tables showcase that Carleton High School and The King’s School students achieve half a grade better per subject than the national average of other students with the same prior attainment. Trust Supports World Mental Health Day

The initiative, led by the Mental Health Foundation and recognised by the World Health Organisation, is held every year on the 10th October. The theme for the day changes each year, and this year’s theme is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’. Walk for Rob

Orchard Head Junior, Infant and Nursery School are holding a fundraising event to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association starting in the week commencing the 10th of October. Most of you will already know that this is a charity that means a lot to the school, not least as a result of one of our parents, Rob Burrow MBE, having been diagnosed with MND in December 2019. The school felt it only fitting to link our fundraising to Rob’s career at Leeds Rhinos and their home stadium at Headingley. Huge Success for Pontefract Students in GCSE Results

The King’s School and Carleton High School, both members of Pontefract Academies Trust, are celebrating GCSE success today. Eight students from Carleton High School achieved an incredible set of results comprising of all 8’s and 9’s. 78% of students from The King’s School and 70% of students from Carleton High School received grades 9-4, including passes in GCSE Maths and English. King’s Fest was a Sell Out!

Over 1,000 parents, carers, students and community members turned out in the sunshine to support The King’s School’s annual event King’s Fest! It was an incredible evening showcasing talent of all varieties across all ages within the school. The event took months of planning and organising and was the biggest community event the school has ever hosted. The main stage had entertainment all night, including singers, dancers, rappers, musicians, and various other performing arts talents. Burrow Family Scoop Up Awards At Yorkshire Choice Awards

10-year-old Macy, 7-year-old Maya, and 3-year-old Jackson Burrow were amazed and excited when they won the Young Achiever Award at the Yorkshire Choice Awards held at Elland Road. The three children, who all attend Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, are used to fancy award ceremonies and being in the limelight as their Dad, Rob Burrow is an English former professional rugby league footballer, who spent 16 years playing for the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, before retiring in 2017. Two New Mascots In Town

Pupils at Pontefract Academies Trust primary schools have been given an important task this week. They have been given the challenge of naming the brand new mascots from The Prince of Wales Hospice. Hospice hero boy and hospice hero girl are the new representatives of the hospice, based in Pontefract. Carleton High School Student Dances Her Way to the Main Stage

Francesca Scholes, a Year 7 student at Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has landed a role in The Nothern Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at Leeds Grand this winter. The production is on from the 20th November to 7th January. Francesca started dancing at the age of 14 months old. She learned to dance at the same time as she started to walk. The passion has been passed down from her Mum, who used to be a freestyle dancer.
