Young Fundraisers Receive Special Mayor Award

Pupils from 6 primary schools in Pontefract, all part of Pontefract Academies Trust, were invited to a special awards ceremony at the Mayor’s office on Thursday to celebrate the incredible fundraising effort they and other schools in the local area contributed to. Organised by The Prince of Wales Hospice, the ceremony celebrated £61,000 being raised from one event alone – a Reindeer Run. In December, children were encouraged to run, dance, skip or hop and get sponsored for doing so. Local Children Involved In Remembrance Day In Pontefract

Both of our secondary schools were delighted to welcome Mr Brian Berry MA from the Ackworth and Pontefract branch of The Royal British Legion along with other ex-veterans. They gave an inspirational presentation about their stories of serving in the war. They also spoke about the significance of the poppy. Both schools were also very fortunate to hear the bugle played live, which marked a very significant point in their assembly. Children In Need 2021

Every year, all eight of our schools find fun ways to raise money for Children in Need. Whether it’s baking, running races, raffles and much more. The Rookeries Junior, Infant & Nursery School featured on Look North and the Children In Need programme as they attempted to break the world record of how many wet sponges can you throw at someone in 30 seconds! A big thank you to Headteacher at The Rookeries, Mr Grogan for nominating himself to have the sponges thrown at! The pupils loved it. Overall our schools raised a staggering £4,000. Pontefract Academies Trust has announced that for this academic year their eight schools as well as the central office, will be fundraising for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. Pontefract Academies Trust Raise almost £20,000 In Their Phenomenal Fundraising Efforts

All eight schools who are part of Pontefract Academies Trust have received the totals that they have collectively raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and Motor Neurone Disease Association during the 2020-2021 academic year. £10,252.10 had been raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice and £9,160.65 for Motor Neurone Disease. HUGE SUCCESS FOR PONTEFRACT STUDENTS IN GCSE RESULTS

The King’s School and Carleton High School, both members of Pontefract Academies Trust, are celebrating GCSE success today. Pontefract Food Bank Thank Pontefract Schools for their Support

Together the 3,900 pupils and over 300 staff members of Pontefract Academies Trust collected 315kg of food which has been donated to Pontefract Food Bank. The amount collected is enough to create 21 food packages for those in need within the local community. Pontefract Academies Trust and Halfpenny Lane is delighted to welcome Hayley McNeill as Headteacher of Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School. Hayley brings with her 29 years of impressive educational experience as a teacher, 11 and a half of them as a Headteacher.
