Pontefract Caped Crusaders will be celebrating Red Nose Day

Wearing red, telling funny jokes and dressing up as their favourite superheroes are just some of the ways that the children at Pontefract Academies Trust schools plan to celebrate Red Nose Day this Friday 19th March. Carleton Park Junior school council had a committee meeting to decide what they would like to do and it was agreed that the whole school will enjoy a “Funny Friday Afternoon” and share as many jokes as they can throughout the day. Masked Readers celebrate World Book Day at Pontefract Academies Trust

Teachers, pupils and parents didn’t let lockdown stop them from celebrating this year’s World Book Day as they enjoyed an action packed agenda to enjoy their love of storytelling and reading. Harry Potters, Hermiones, Dennis the Menaces, Tom Gates and Fantastic Mr Foxes are just some of the characters that joined Pontefract Academies Trust online lessons to enjoy “The Masked Reader” event where staff disguised their faces and children and families had to guess who it is and what book they were reading. Pontefract Academies Trust Support Children’s Mental Health Week

Pontefract Academies Trust has been embracing Children’s Mental Health Week and encouraging all their students to find activities that help them feel good about themselves whether that be art, drama, exercise or music. The schools will be following the Place2Be’s theme of ‘Dress to Express’ this week and all students and staff will be taking part. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite colours or even sports strip to help share their feelings and thoughts. More than 500 teachers and staff from Pontefract Academies Trust are collecting tins of food and urgent items to donate to the Pontefract food bank. The Trust are pleased to be able to help them continue their phenomenal work of helping those needing support especially the increased numbers during the pandemic. Blue Peter Badges for two Pontefract Children

Two delighted siblings Daisy and Henry from Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School, which is part of Pontefract Academies Trust, have been awarded with their very own Blue Peter Badges for their fantastic artwork. The children are absolutely ecstatic as they’re both big fans of the popular Blue Peter tv programme and never believed they’d be awarded their own badges. Pontefract Primary Schools Light up a Life for The Prince of Wales Hospice

Children from six schools in Pontefract have recorded themselves singing a Christmas song and message to be played as part of The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract, Light up a Life event on Thursday 10th December at 7pm. Creative Pontefract Children produce 200 Poppies for Remembrance Day

Primary school children from Pontefract Academies Trust have made around 200 poppies to be displayed opposite Valley Gardens in Pontefract Town Centre for all to come and see and mark Remembrance Day on the 11th November. The idea behind this was to help all the children to learn the meaning behind Remembrance Sunday, Armistice Day, and the significance of the ceremonies and the poppy symbol in a creative and thought provoking way. Thousands of Pontefract Kids Took Part in the Cross Country Challenge

Around 3500 children in Pontefract put their best feet forward to take part in the Trust’s first Cross Country Challenge competition.  Each child raced against their individual class mates along a designated track to adhere to social distancing rules.  Key Stage 1 children ran 800 metres and Key Stage 2 children ran 1200 metres. Halfpenny Lane Primary School Raise £400 for The Prince of Wales Hospice

More than 400 children at Halfpenny Lane Primary school bounced into school last week with big smiles on their faces as they celebrated their non uniform day.  The special day took place to raise money for Pontefract Academies Trust’s chosen local charity for the year:  “The Prince of Wales Hospice.” Each child was encouraged to come to school and wear their own clothes and if possible something blue, which is the The Prince of Wales Hospice colours, and donate what they can to this worthwhile cause.  In total they raised a staggering £400 which will help The Prince of Wales… Read more

Pontefract Academies Trust Invests £90,000 into Outdoor Learning and Play

Pontefract Academies Trust is delighted to announce that they have invested around £90,000 into outdoor learning facilities for Halfpenny Lane and The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School. Children and staff are now able to take advantage of state of the art playground equipment which includes planting areas, den making apparatus and textured multi coloured flooring to help heighten the senses and encourage creative play.
