This term, pupils across our primary schools put their culinary skills to the test in a fun, hands-on cooking competition with three competitive rounds. Round 1: Design a £10 menu Round 1 kicked off with a challenge to design a menu that could be made with a budget of £10. Pupils had to consider how their menu could be cost-effective yet flavoursome. Round 2: Ordering Food Next, pupils met with office managers to place their food orders. Stronger as One: 80+ staff members take part in Pontefract 10K

This weekend, more than 80 of our staff members took part in the Pontefract 10K, all in support of Oliver’s Army, a cause close to the hearts of our school community. Oliver, the son of one of our teachers, is currently facing a second battle with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. What started as an idea at Carleton High School quickly gained momentum across the Trust, with further schools and colleagues signing to support the cause. At the end of March, Pontefract Academies Trust had the pleasure of hosting the very first PAT Primary Maths Championship, bringing pupils together from across our seven primary schools for a day of fierce competition. Halfpenny Lange Junior, Infant and Nursery School attended the Awards Ceremony at Castleford Tigers RLC where the Mayor of Wakefield presented them with the following prizes: Innovative Business Idea Best Business Pitch and Presentation Highest Income Generated Halfpenny Lane raised £951 for the Hospice, made from the sale of their Pupil Portrait Calendar and Places of Pontefract Calendar. Miss Hetherington of Halfpenny School, crowned Woman of Steel 2024

Miss Hetherington, Teaching Assistant at Halfpenny Lane School, has been crowned Woman of Steel at the 2024 Rugby League Awards. This award follows a fantastic season for Georgie after winning the 2024 Women’s Super League Grand Final and being named Player of the Match for a second consecutive year. Ofsted praises Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School in Pontefract

A Pontefract Academies Trust school in Pontefract has been told it “might be outstanding” following an ungraded inspection from Ofsted. Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School was visited by Ofsted in April for an ungraded inspection and a report has now been published. As the school was previously rated good in its 2019 graded inspection, Ofsted carried out an ungraded inspection - which occurs once every four years to confirm a school remains good. Plans revealed for Carleton High School’s rebuild under the government’s flagship School Rebuilding Programme

Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has today, Thursday 22nd December revealed the plans for the replacement of its school’s multiple teaching blocks with an entirely new 3-story building, securing the future of the school and high educational standards for all of its pupils for decades to come.
