Miss Hetherington, Teaching Assistant at Halfpenny Lane School, has been crowned Woman of Steel at the 2024 Rugby League Awards.
This award follows a fantastic season for Georgie after winning the 2024 Women’s Super League Grand Final and being named Player of the Match for a second consecutive year.
Georgie is a fantastic role model for pupils at Halfpenny Lane School and today brought her trophy in to show and tell at a special assembly in her honour.
Georgie hopes that by winning this award “the children at Halfpenny Lane School will continue to appreciate the importance of following our school values (Be Kind, Be Ambitious, Be Resilient, Be Halfpenny).” She encourages pupils to be the very best version of themselves “by working hard, being honest, committed and following the process that anything is possible and you are highly likely to realise your potential”.
The team at Pontefract Academies Trust and Halfpenny Lane School are unbelievably proud of what Georgie has achieved. Ian Shuttleworth, Headteacher at Halfpenny, says “there is never a day when she gives less than 100%, and this is clearly the case when she represents York Valkyrie.”
Congratulations Georgie – you are an inspiration to us all, both on and off the pitch.
