This term, pupils across our primary schools put their culinary skills to the test in a fun, hands-on cooking competition with three competitive rounds.
Round 1: Design a £10 menu
Round 1 kicked off with a challenge to design a menu that could be made with a budget of £10. Pupils had to consider how their menu could be cost-effective yet flavoursome.
Round 2: Ordering Food
Next, pupils met with office managers to place their food orders. This gave them valuable insight into budgeting and ordering, helping them to understand planning and cooking meals in the real-world.
Round 3: Cook-off for the Judges
Each school then selected five children to bring their menu to life in the kitchen. Once cooked, the meals were taste-tested by our judges, and a vote was held for the winner.
Winners Trip to DoubleTree by Hilton
The winning pupils from each school were taken on a trip to DoubleTree by Hilton in Leeds. The children were given a behind the scenes tour of the hotel, before getting hands-on in the kitchen to make their very own pizzas – they even got a cookie for dessert.
This Trust-wide initiative has been a fantastic opportunity to build confidence and develop skills, all while having fun. A big thank you to all the staff who took part and supported the event and thank you to DoubleTree by Hilton for giving our children this memorable experience.
