Thousands of Pontefract Kids Took Part in the Cross Country Challenge

Around 3500 children in Pontefract put their best feet forward to take part in the Trust’s first Cross Country Challenge competition.  Each child raced against their individual class mates along a designated track to adhere to social distancing rules.  Key Stage 1 children ran 800 metres and Key Stage 2 children ran 1200 metres. At the end of the race the children were given an individual time to share with their parents.   Awards and certificates will be issued to the six children with the fastest time in each of the competing schools.   There will also be “spirit of the games… Read more

Halfpenny Lane Primary School Raise £400 for The Prince of Wales Hospice

More than 400 children at Halfpenny Lane Primary school bounced into school last week with big smiles on their faces as they celebrated their non uniform day.  The special day took place to raise money for Pontefract Academies Trust’s chosen local charity for the year:  “The Prince of Wales Hospice.” Each child was encouraged to come to school and wear their own clothes and if possible something blue, which is the The Prince of Wales Hospice colours, and donate what they can to this worthwhile cause.  In total they raised a staggering £400 which will help The Prince of Wales… Read more

Pontefract Academies Trust Invests £90,000 into Outdoor Learning and Play

Pontefract Academies Trust is delighted to announce that they have invested around £90,000 into outdoor learning facilities for Halfpenny Lane and The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School. Children and staff are now able to take advantage of state of the art playground equipment which includes planting areas, den making apparatus and textured multi coloured flooring to help heighten the senses and encourage creative play. Pontefract Academies Trust Support Children’s Mental Health Week

Pontefract Academies Trust has been embracing Children’s Mental Health Week and encouraging all their students to find activities that help them feel good about themselves whether that be art, drama, exercise or music. The schools will be following the Place2Be’s theme of ‘Dress to Express’ this week and all students and staff will be taking part. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite colours or even sports strip to help share their feelings and thoughts. More than 500 teachers and staff from Pontefract Academies Trust are collecting tins of food and urgent items to donate to the Pontefract food bank.  The Trust are pleased to be able to help them continue their phenomenal work of helping those needing support especially the increased numbers during the pandemic. Full Marks for Pontefract Academies Trust – Top 10% of Education Trusts in the Country and 3 Schools in the Top 10 of all Wakefield Primary Schools

Pontefract Academies Trust has been named in the top 10% of education trusts in the country in the Department for Education Performance Tables for primary schools, published last month. The performance tables compared the performance of 297 multi academy trusts for primary school performance with the Trust being rated 22nd in the rank order for attainment. The performance sees a reversal in fortunes for the Trust having been rated the 11th worst performing trust the previous year. Key Stage 2 SATs Success!

The recent publication of the the Key Stage 2 SATs results is proving that the Trust is continuing to transform the quality of education for the young people of the town. The primary schools within the Trust have improved by 24% points overall. This means that primary school performance is now above the national average for the first time in the history of the Trust. Halfpenny Lane J, I & N School rated “Good” by Ofsted

Staff and pupils at Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School are celebrating after an Ofsted inspection saw them receive a ‘good’ rating. Inspectors spent two days at Halfpenny Lane J, I & N School observing lessons, talking with staff and students and seeking the viewpoints of parents.
